It's apparent that I'll get no rest until I finally write something and introduce myself, I might as well get this out of the way now. Or finally.
What's a new hire supposed to say anyway? Certainly nothing intelligible! New hires typically run around for a couple of weeks asking lots of questions and have problems just finding out who's who, who does and what and where the heck is the rest room?
What I can say so far though is this: Smart people work here. Very smart. You want to do business with these smart people.
Friendly people work here, which also references back to the smart people comment. Learning a new industry, the lingo and all that goes along with it can be a little daunting normally. The crew here is very easy to work with and learn from and it's a relationship that I've seen applied to customers as well. I haven't heard anything along the lines of "No, we can't do that." It's always a matter of "We can do that and if we're not doing it now, we can do it in the future or sooner than that."
When I see that sort of positive attitude directed towards each other, from the top down, I get the impression that employees are actually happy. Happy people make good stuff and they take the extra care and initiative to innovate and do it right.
Am I the new guy who's got stars in his eyes? Nah... well maybe, but I don't think so. I've just seen and worked at enough places where people are over stressed or micro managed enough to be able to spot the differences early on.
What's my role here you may ask? World domination. But until then, I'm just the new guy. Learning the ropes, shipping products, answering the phones and deciding whether or not Miss Moneypenny is my hero or who my male, Know-All-Do-All Secretary archetype is.
After all, world domination begins with knowledge and who really runs the show?
The secretaries do.
