I recently made the statement that an "All IP" surveillance video system by Indigo Vision is not an IP Video Recording system any more than ours is because they use encoder and decoder boxes just like we do.
The difference between our system and theirs is that we put the encoder into an NVR, thereby making it a DVR. We could just as easily put the encoder into its own box. (We don't because our all-in-one architecture provides fewer points of failure, quicker and easier installation, and a smaller footprint for power, AC, and physical space.)
People should be aware that the super-hot buzzword "IP" merely refers to the transmission medium for the video from the encoder to the NVR.
